Woman, 25, killed in solo accident in Benicia suburb

Benicia police continue to investigate a one-car fatal accident Saturday that killed the driver, identified as Katrina Martens, 25, of West Sacramento, after her 2000 Honda Accord struck a house in the 500 block of Rose Drive, Lt. Frank Hartig said Monday.

The accident happened at 11:47 p.m. Sautrday after Martens was driving north on Hasting Drive and didn’t halt at the stop sign at the T-shaped intersection with Rose Drive, Hartig said.

The car crossed the intersection, hit a curb on Rose Drive, then struck a house in the 500 block of Rose, Hartig said.

The woman, who was said to be wearing safety restraints, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hartig said.

He said her body was taken from the scene by Solano County Coroner’s Office employees, who notified her next of kin.

Benicia Police Department’s traffic unit is handling the investigation, Hartig said.

“It appears that speed was a contributing factor to this collision,” he said. “The speed limit for this area is 25 mph.”

He said toxicology rests are being run, but results won’t be available for several weeks.

Meanwhile, he said, “Traffic investigators will be attempting to determine the events that led up to the collision and the cause of the collision.”

The house received some structural damage, but the residents are able to stay at home, he said.

No one who lived at the house was hurt in the accident, Hartig said.
