Letters: Freedom of the press

March 23, 2017 by Editor 6 Comments

Freedom of the press

This is in response to Denise Millazzo’ March 21 letter. I believe in freedom of the press. Your right to that has been upheld, and that will continue. It is also my right, which I do hope you also will respect. My letters are fact-driven and in a straightforward style. I will correct any info that is not correct about what I write and will respect the same by others.
The one thing that I do not respect is in the same sentence to politically connect me to the president of the United States because you do not like him. I made no reference to the president. I also believe that your right and all of our rights to free speech should never be censored. I do strongly believe in the First Amendment as I think you also do. I do think it is safe to say no law will prohibit that.
Yes, I am critical of elected officials and do expect them to live up to their campaign platform. I respect our city employees and also all residents of this wonderful city. My style may not sit well with you, but it is fact-driven. I think you will find the facts that I wrote about the budget crisis that the city is in are right on. You and others may well already know that or maybe may not agree with my facts. That is fine. Just do not attack me personally and counter with other facts that may make my facts wrong. I have never had a problem with that.
I am not a  predator. I will continue as “The Owl,” always with my eyes wide open and looking forward to a wonderful year for all our residents.

Bob “The Owl” Livesay,
Benicia

I mean, some of it is just bizzare format decisions. For example, why was this not made as a comment to the piece in question? Is it really necessary to clog up the section with a piece that’s literally only a comment at another’s. It’s also difficult to really support you being Fact based. You almost never give resources to back up your statements, so it’s totally up in the air if what you claim is truth or not. Add in the way you tend to brush off dissenting opinions as either Liberal or Socialist, and it makes commincating with you often feel like talking to a brick wall.

Nothing is up in the air. The sources are very easy to get. Just go to the city and pay attention to the council meetings. They review the budgets and all items that make up the budget. You can get all the info you want from the city. I do and so can you. I responded to a LTTE with a LTTE. .

Mr Owl, Since you have such a strong opinion on just about everything, and are so in touch with “the facts” – maybe you should run for a seat on the city council. Wait… never mind. You might get elected. We did just elect Trump after-all…

“We did just elect Trump after-all…” — Trump carried Benicia? Thanks for that news.

I meant we as a country, and I was being sarcastic.

JB it is not opinions or political. I do check my facts. I would assume if you did not already know they could be very helpful to you and others. Thanks for the endorsement.
