Seniors, unfortunately, are susceptible to scams in a lot of forms. Due to them typically having a lot of money in their accounts, seniors are generally targeted by scammers through phone calls, emails and even mailers. These scams include everything from telemarketing, insurance fraud, medical fraud, investment schemes, sweepstakes and more.
However, with the right knowledge, individuals can learn to identify these scams before they happen. They can learn more in a Senior Scam Stopper seminar being held in Concord on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The Contractors State License Board are joining forces with Tim Grayson, Benicia’s representative in the California State Assembly, to present a seminar informing seniors how they can protect themselves from fraud. License Board representatives will discuss state legislation aimed at combating scams revolved around home improvement, auto repair, insurance, telemarketing, real estate and other scams.
The seminar will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Centre Concord, located at 5298 Clayton Road. It is free and open to seniors, their loved ones and caregivers. Light refreshments will be available at no taxpayer expense. To RSVP, call (925) 521-1511 or go to asmdc.org/bx.
