Staff Report
Throughout October, the Benicia Police Department will be raising awareness of breast cancer through its first-ever participation in the Pink Patch Project (PPP), according to a city news release.
The project is a collaborative effort between the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs’ Association and public safety agencies throughout the country. The program centers on pink versions of the public safety employee’s uniform patch. The patches are designed by each participating agency specifically for the campaign, which aims to combat breast cancer by increasing awareness and raising funds for breast cancer education, research and treatment. The patches also stimulate conversations about early detection and the ongoing fight against breast cancer. Benicia police officers and members of other agencies will be wearing the patches on their uniforms during the month of October, which is “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
The Benicia Police Department’s goal is to raise funds for cancer research, treatment and education through the sale of the commemorative pink patches, which can be purchased online at ci.benicia.ca.us/police or in the lobby of the Police Department, 200 East L St., through Oct. 31. The cost is $10 per patch, and all proceeds will be donated to the Solano Midnight Sun Breast Cancer Foundation.
