The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls soccer team ended the regular season on a high note Tuesday with a 2-0 Senior Night victory over visiting Salesian at Dante Magnani Field.
It was the second win in the past three games for the Lady Bruins (3-9, 2-8 Tri-County Athletic League), who travel to El Cerrito on Thursday for the opening round of the TCAL playoffs.
“We had everybody together today and when we do that, we can compete with most teams in the league,” said SPSV head coach Javier Martinez.
Chloe Lindemann got the Lady Bruins on the board in the first half when she blasted a deep shot over the head of Salesian’s goalkeeper. Senior Kristina Ruble pulled off the same trick in the second half, looping a shot over the keeper’s head to make it 2-0.
“That’s something we’ve been practicing,” Martinez said. “We’re aiming for the crossbar figuring it will be off a little, and it worked out perfectly.”
SPSV’s defense didn’t make any crucial mistakes and recorded its first shutout of the year.
“Our defense played good, especially in the second half,” Martinez said. “We communicated really well.”
