The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity basketball team had only six players available Tuesday night at Pinole Valley and came up a little short in a 44-41 loss to the Lady Spartans.
SPSV didn’t score for the first 5:30 of the second half until Kelly Dennis converted a bucket. That scoring drought was just enough to keep the Lady Bruins from mounting a late comeback.
“We played hard and fatigue was a factor, but we still aren’t shooting well enough on our free throws and we’re still committing too many turnovers,” said SPSV head coach Nadine Walker.
Dennis had a career night with 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Selena Caoile added 14 points and five rebounds, Alyssa Sanderson nailed three 3-pointers, Taya de Alba had five rebounds, and Makayla Solano and Wanna Wong each had four assists.
It was the eighth loss in the past nine games for the Lady Bruins, who fell to 6-13 overall and 0-5 in the Tri-County Athletic Leagye. Pinole Valley improved to 8-9 overall and 3-2 in the TCAL.
SPSV hosts St. Mary’s on Friday.
