Two days after securing their first victory in nearly four years, the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys varsity soccer team went right back to their losing ways.
The Bruins were simply no match for the host Kennedy on Thursday, falling 6-0 to the Indians. SPSV is now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the Tri-County Athletic League.
“We played well, but Kennedy was much faster than us and had us pinned back most of the game,” said SPSV head coach Greg Coan. “We didn’t generate much of an attack, but we defended well.”
Kennedy (4-5-1, 1-1-1 TCAL) actually led only 2-0 at halftime, with one of those goals coming on a penalty kick. The Indians eventually increased their lead to 4-0 before scoring two late goals to turn the game into a rout.
“We were able to hold our own against a much better team,” Coan said. “We’ve made a lot of progress over previous years. We’re improving quite a bit.”
All six of SPSV’s games this year have been on the road. The Bruins take to the road again Tuesday night against Pinole Valley and will celebrate their home opener next Thursday night against St. Joe’s.
