The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High varsity softball team resumed its winning ways after a 13-0 rout of host Campolindo in five innings Tuesday.
The Lady Bruins (17-2), who suffered their first losses of the season last Saturday at the Woodcreek Tournament, scored in every inning against Campolindo and won by 10 or more runs for the ninth time this year.
“This is a resilient group and they bounced right back,” coach Rich Gigliotti said of his Lady Bruins. “We shuffled things around a little bit just to give girls who haven’t played much some time, and it worked out OK.”
Campolindo (1-6) lost six seniors from a team that went 15-10 a year ago and reached the North Coast Section playoffs. Campolindo also doesn’t have a junior varsity program this season, leaving the Lady Cougars with a lot of young players on the varsity roster.
The experienced Lady Bruins took advantage. Dot Bibb came within a foot of hitting a home run and settled for an RBI double. Jaydee Boursaw went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, Zaria Meshack and Jennifer Adams each scored twice, and Tierney Bates and Briana Reason-Shaw each had two hits.
Taya de Alba had the biggest day for the Lady Bruins. The junior went 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs and an RBI, and also pitched all five innings, allowing only three hits and no runs with six strikeouts. It was SPSV’s fifth shutout victory of the season.
