Already playing without two starters, the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls varsity basketball team lost starting guard Selena Caoile to an ankle injury early in the first quarter of a 79-23 blowout loss to host St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
It was a poor Tri-County Athletic League debut for the Lady Bruins (5-9, 0-1), who trailed 48-10 at halftime and 68-13 after three quarters. SPSV had 18 turnovers in the first half against St. Mary’s (10-4, 1-0 TCAL).
Caoile was the team’s leading scorer coming into the game. Senior center Kelly Dennis hurt herself in practice a day earlier and starting guard Wanna Wong was injured in the previous game.
Neenah Pangilinan led SPSV with 14 points and Alyssa Sanderson buried two 3-pointers for six points. The rest of the Lady Bruins roster combined for three points.
