A Benicia man who told Benicia police he used chalk to write “Buy meth here” on a neighbor’s home has been accused of a variety of charges, including possessing pornography depicting a minor, possession of more than 28.6 grams of marijuana and vandalism, Lt. Michael Greene said Monday.
Police were called to the 900 block of Grant Street at about 10 a.m. Friday by neighbors who found the words written in what appeared to be chalk at their home, and witnesses indicated they knew the man who had vandalized the dwelling, Greene said.
Officers went to the apartment of the man, identified as Robert Roy Ticer, who lives nearby, he said. During their conversation, the man told police he had written the words, Greene said.
Because Ticer, 53, has previous convictions and was on felony probation, law enforcement officers were allowed to search his home, Greene said.
During the search, Greene said, officers found images they believe were downloaded from Internet sites they considered obscene depictions using minors as subjects.
They also found .22 caliber and .38 caliber ammunition, which Greene said the man isn’t allowed to possess because he is a convicted felon. They also found two containers of marijuana, some in a plastic bag and more in a glass jar, with a combined weight more than 28.5 grams.
The combined bond of those charges is $28,000.
The man also was accused of violating his felony probation, for which he is being held without bond.
Ticer, who has a felony-level burglary conviction and is banned from owning a firearm, was arrested May 12 when police said he fired two shots at a man with whom he had had a previous argument.
He was taken into custody after callers reported hearing the sound of shots being fired near an apartment complex in the 600 block of Military East, Lt. Frank Hartig said at the time.
The shots missed the intended victim, and both bullets were recovered by police. At the time, Ticer was charged with shooting at an unoccupied dwelling, shooting a firearm in a gross or negligent manner, assault with a deadly weapon (firearm,) being a felon in possession of a firearm, all felonies; plus use of a firearm in city limits and violation of probation.
Ticer was on probation from a previous conviction of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the shooting.
