The woman, identified as Victoria Mueller Palomino, was described as white, with brown hair and green eyes, standing 5 foot 2 and last seen wearing gray sweat pants and a blue sweatshirt, he said.
Hartig said a police officer was flagged down about 10:51 a.m. Friday by a man standing at the corner of Kearney Street and Rose Drive. The man said he and his wife, Palomino, had finished a short walk around the park when the woman went to their car to wait for her husband, who continued to walk.
When the man returned to the parking lot, he noticed that his car, a white 2007 Toyota Prius, with California license plate 5XOR544, and his wife were missing. The husband searched the park’s parking areas as well as those in the nearby Matthew Turner Elementary School .
When he couldn’t find the car or his wife, the man waved down the police officer, Hartig said.
Police said the man is worried because of his wife’s health.
“Two years ago, Victoria suffered a brain aneurysm and has not driven a motor vehicle since that time,” Hartig said. “Victoria has lost most of her short term memory and according to the husband, often lives in the past from her long term memory.”
Palomino doesn’t have her purse or any identification, nor does she have her cell phone, Hartig said.
“At this point, there does not appear to be any foul play involved,” Hartig said. “However, based on her medical condition and the fact she has not driven for two years, the Benicia Police Department considers her ‘at risk’ due to her mental state.”
He said police believe Palomino in possession of the vehicle, and are not suspecting foul play.
In addition to the department’s own search, Benicia Police have reported the missing woman to surrounding law enforcement agencies, and Palomino and the Toyota Prius have been listed as missing in a statewide reporting system.
“Anyone with information is encouraged to immediately call the Benicia Police Department at 707 745-3412,” Hartig said.
