Free events to be held in Fairfield, Vallejo, Vacaville, focus on chronic issues

A series of “Healthier Living” workshops for those with chronic health conditions will begin next month in Vallejo, Fairfield and Vacaville, said Marilyn Sexton, health education specialist in the Health Promotion and Community Wellness Bureau of Solano County Public Health Services’ Health and Social Services Department.

The Vallejo workshops will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 14 through Feb. 18 at Kaiser Permanente, 975 Sereno Drive.

Those who experience chronic health problems and their caregivers can take advantage of these free sessions, Sexton said.

The Fairfield workshops will meet from 1-3:30 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 15 through Feb. 19 at Fairfield Senior Manor, 1101 Union Ave.

In Vacaville, the workshops will meet from 1-3:30 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 15 through Feb. 19 at Twin Oaks Apartments, 2390 Nut Tree Road.

The workshops will be offered later next year, too, Sexton said.

In Vallejo, the free Healthier Living workshops also will meet 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays from March 11 through April 15 and again at those times from May 11 to June 17 at the Area Agency on Aging, 400 Contra Costa St.

Additional workshops are in the process of being scheduled.

The Area Agency on Aging Serving Napa and Solano, 707-643-1797, is handing registration for the free workshops, Sexton said.

Healthier Living is sponsored by Solano Public Health and Partners 4 Healthy Solano with funding from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
