Vallejo police look into 2 deaths

April 1, 2015 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

Investigations into shooting, pedestrian fatalities continue

Vallejo police are investigating two separate deaths, one a pedestrian who was struck at the intersection of Curtola Parkway and Marin Street early Tuesday and the other a victim of a Saturday shooting.

Officer James Melville said police responded about 6 a.m. to the traffic accident report, and preliminary investigations indicate that a 23-year-old Vallejo woman was crossing Curtola Parkway when she was hit by a vehicle driven by another Vallejo resident.

“The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by medics,” Melville said.

The motorist is cooperating with investigators, he said, and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been a factor.

However, Melville said he and Officer Shane Bower, both of the Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division, are welcoming additional information from the public. They may be called at 707-648-4014.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Steven Cheatham said Vallejo police homicide detectives are continuing to investigate a shooting that killed a 20-year-old Vallejo resident Saturday afternoon.

The incident took place about 5:50 p.m. in the 100 block of Hillborn Avenue, Cheatham said.

Officers dispatched to the scene found the victim, who was suffering multiple gunshot wounds, in an apartment complex.

Medical aid responders also were sent to the apartment. The victim was sent to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his wounds there, Cheatham said.

The victim was identified as Ruben Michelle Johnson Jr., 20, of Vallejo.

“Anyone who may have witnessed this event or has any information, is encouraged to contact the Vallejo Police Department at 707-552-3285 or Detectives Terry Poyser or Robert Greenberg at 707-648-4524,” Cheatham said in a news release Sunday.
