Vallejo Police Department has chosen officer Brenton Garrick, a 25-year veteran, as its new community engagement officer, Lt. Kenny Park, public information officer, said Thursday.

“The primary role of this new assignment is to more actively engage with the community and to enhance communications between the citizens of Vallejo and the police department,” Park said.

Among Garrick’s responsibilities will be to disseminate information about the status of various Vallejo police activities through face-to-face conversations and through managing social media communication, Park said.

The department has a Facebook account and plans to launch a free mobile telephone application, he added.

In the future, he said, the department may establish a Twitter account and release information through Nixle.

Garrick also will help the Community Services section, particularly in reaching out to community groups and working with such department programs as Coffee with the Cops, the annual open house and other events.

“The Vallejo Police Department is excited about this opportunity to reinforce and strengthen relationships with our community,” Park said.
