‘Unfinished Man’

August 21, 2014 by Donna Beth Weilenman

“Unfinished Man,” the current exhibit at Gallery 621 is a collaboration of three artists who interpreted heads and faces in the works that are on display. Robert-Jean Ray’s tiny collages are no more than two inches across. In contrast, Lillian Almeida, from Eugene, Ore., has contributed latex paintings from her “Big Heads” series that span 48 inches (‘Tom 6’ above). Joseph Mele’s work range from the iconic to the mysterious, showing man as an observer, companion, guide or guardian. “We exist in varying states of integration, coalescence and dissolution — unfinished, as these works attest,” Curator TaVee McAllister said. This show continues through Aug. 31 The gallery, 621 First St., is open from noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
