Thompson to visit Mare Island earthquake protection company

December 15, 2014 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, the Napa Democrat who represents Benicia and Vallejo, will tour Earthquake Protection Systems’ headquarters and its manufacturing building at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The company is at 759 Azuar Ave., on Mare Island, Vallejo, and it’s owned by Victor Zayas.

In a related matter, Thompson said he has been concerned about the effects of the Aug. 24 earthquake that was centered in Napa but caused significant structural damage in Vallejo and some damage in Benicia.

Dec. 29 is the last day to register for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance to obtain funds that have been made available to those in Napa and Solano counties who suffered damage from the quake.

Thompson said he has been assuring residents he would help those facing hurdles in getting available assistance.

The Obama administration has approved Individual Assistance (IA) FEMA disaster funding for individuals and families in Napa and Solano counties to help rebuild and repair housing and other personal property.

Residents can apply online through www.DisasterAssistance.gov and, in Spanish, at www.disasterassistance.gov/es.

They also can apply on smartphones at m.fema.gov, or in Spanish at m.fema.gov/esp.

Thompson constituents also may call the registration phone number at 800-621-3362; those who have a speech disability or hearing loss and use TTY devices may call 800-462-7585 directly. Those who use 7-1-1 or Video Relay Service may call 800-621-3362.

They will need to provide their Social Security numbers and those for spouses, private insurance information, address and zip code of the damaged building as well as directions and contact information, among other information.

They also can visit a FEMA agent from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at 1155 Capitol St., Vallejo.

Those with small businesses can receive help through the Small Business Administration’s website, http://www.sba.gov.
