U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson will join U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, to host a forum on women’s economic matters Thursday in Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park.

He then will host a community discussion Monday in Martinez about concussion prevention.

Thompson, D-Napa, represents Benicia in the House.

Thursday’s forum at Sonoma State is called “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families.”

Women leaders from Thompson’s district will tell personal stories and talk about the importance of women in the economic agenda.

In addition to Pelosi, those participating will be Jeri Hansen-Gill, chief executive officer of of Sustainable Napa County; Socorro Shiels, superintendent of the Santa Rosa City School District; Andrea Ballus, Benicia native and founder and owner of Sift Cupcake and Dessert Bar; and Mona Babauta, executive director of Solano County Transit.

The women’s economic forum will take place at 10 a.m. in the Sonoma State University Student Center Ballroom, 1801 East Cotati Ave., Rohnert Park.

Reservations to the forum are needed and may be made online here.

Monday’s community meeting on concussion prevention will take place at 6 p.m. at Alhambra High School, 150 E St., Martinez.

“More than 3.8 million sports and recreation-related concussions occur in the U.S. each year,” Thompson said in a news release.

“Concussions and head injuries are happening with greater frequency across all sports. At this meeting, athletes, parents and coaches will have the opportunity to speak with experts about how to recognize a possible concussion, how to prevent serious head injuries, and how to respond to head injuries when they occur.”

Joining Thompson in the community discussion will be Dr. Jose Yasul, director of musculoskeletal and sports medicine education at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center; Onome Ojo, a former University of California-Davis wide receiver who played in the National Football League for the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Diego Chargers; Elizabeth Edgerly, chief program officer of the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern California and Northern Nevada; and Alan Hern, head coach of the Alhamabra High School football team.
