Student killed in Vallejo identified

May 15, 2015 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

A Jesse Bethel High School student was shot and killed near a Vallejo skate park Thursday morning, and the shooting prompted a temporary lockdown of two nearby schools, Lt. Kenny Park said.

Park said Vallejo police were called about 11:55 a.m. Thursday by someone who said a person might have been shot near the park, in the 1800 block of Ascot Parkway.

Officers found Kenneth Maxwell “Max” Rusk, a senior at Jesse Bethel High, unresponsive. Emergency medical crews were dispatched, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police asked administrators at two Vallejo schools, Joseph Wardlaw Elementary, 1698 Oakwood Ave., and Jesse Bethel High, 1800 Ascot Parkway, to lock down their campuses.

Vallejo K-9 officers and the California Highway Patrol air unit searched throughout the neighborhood for suspects, but none was found, Park said.

The schools’ lockdown was lifted at 12:36 p.m. Thursday.

“Vallejo police are asking for the public’s assistance with any information that may aid in this investigation,” Park said, adding that those with information may call Detective Scott Yates or Detective Sean Kenney at 707-648-4533 or 707-648-4524.
