Strong showing by BHS badminton

Benicia High’s badminton team improved to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the Solano County Athletic Conference after a 15-0 sweep of host Fairfield last Thursday.

Anataya Phadungsang was a 21-8, 21-10 winner in No. 1 singles. Gabby Traver won 21-10, 21-7 at No. 2 singles, Simone Burdick was a 21-13, 21-6 winner at No. 3, and Jeanette Burdick won 21-13, 21-11 at No. 4.

Other singles winners for Benicia included Maddy Schmeling (21-3, 21-8), Anise Ghandchi (21-8, 21-17), Danielle Lozada (21-7, 21-1) and Elizabeth Miller-Binkley (21-5, 21-1).

Phadungsang and Ghandchi teamed up for a 21-13, 21-14 victory in No. 1 doubles. The Burdick twins won 21-13, 21-9 at No. 2 doubles while Traver and Schmeling won 21-11, 21-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Other doubles winners for Benicia included Lozada and Regina Salvador (21-13, 21-6), Jade Fisher and Keialani Rom (21-2, 21-17), Miller-Binkley and Alvina Phouasalit (21-9, 21-10), and Jordan Whiting and Elena Brown (21-6, 21-6).

Benicia plays at American Canyon on Tuesday.
