Stingrays swim well against Crockett

The Benicia Stingrays had a strong showing against Crockett on July 16 in their final away meet of the Twin Counties Swim League regular season.

Jake Rafac, Jacob Hoenig, Nate Freeman and Andrew Maichel set a new Stingrays 15-18 boys record in the 200-yard freestyle relay after winning with a time of 1:43.23 in the final event of the day. Robert Patocchi joined Hoenig, Rafac and Maichel in winning the 200-medley relay (1:58.37) while Rafac won the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.91) and butterfly (1:04.82).

Maichel, Freeman and Patocchi dominated the 13-14 boys division. Maichel won the 50-yard freestyle (25.31), butterfly (28.31) and 100-yard IM (1:07.78), Freeman took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.43) and Patocchi won the 50-yard backstroke (29.72).

Bryce Mincy was the star for Benicia’s 9-10 boys, winning the 50-yard freestyle (36.78), butterfly (44.09) and 100-yard IM (1:42.15). Teammate Aidian Zambrano won the 50-yard backstroke (50.50) while Justin Magno won the breaststroke (57.76). Mincy, Zambrano, Magno and Mario Stump took first place in the 200-yard medley relay (2:13.39) and freestyle relay (2:46.89).

Vincent Perelli won the 25-yard butterfly (17.83), breaststroke (23.62) and 100-yard IM (1:45.78) for Benicia’s 7-8 boys. Teammate William Klubben won the 25-yard freestyle (16.44) and backstroke (20.88) and teamed with Perelli, William Fade and Lucas Cagnon to win the 100-yard freestyle relay (1:20.47) and medley relay (1:33.38).

Ryan Klubben, who set a Benicia 6-under boys record in the 25-yard breaststroke July 13 against Pleasant Hill, took first place in the same event against Crockett (26.85). Klubben also won the 25-yard freestyle (18.40) and butterfly (22.81). Evan Magno won the backstroke (31.81) and joined Klubben, Tyler Ackelbein and Conor Smith to win the 100-yard freestyle relay (2:05.84) and medley relay (2:28.44).

In girls swimming, Jessica Scott won the 50-yard freestyle (27.97) in the 13-14 division while teammate Jayme Davis won the breaststroke (37.87). Scott and Davis joined Gabriella Tenret and Skyelar Clouse to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:13.39) and joined Tenret and Emma Lindemuth to win the freestyle relay (1:57.94).

Olivia Kelly won the 50-yard backstroke (44.16) for Benicia’s 11-12 girls. Julia Sovak won the 50-yard backstroke (48.34) for the 9-10 girls while teammate Yuna Bi won the 100-yard IM (1:50.81).

For the 7-8 girls, Claire Smith took first place in the 25-yard backstroke (24.99) while Ellen Goncharov won the freestyle (23.00). Goncharov and Smith joined Caroline Kelley and Lila Fellman to win the 100-yard freestyle relay (1:38.56). Goncharov, Smith, Kelley and Vanessa Sandoval won the medley relay (2:00.59).

Madison Smith-Rambo won the 25-yard freestyle (22.26) and backstroke (26.12) for Benicia’s 6-under girls and joined Ava Ambrose, Chelsea Klubben and Ella Throne to win the 100-yard medley relay (3:59.37).

Benicia has a home meet this Saturday against American Canyon and Vista Diablo at the James Lemos Swim Center.
