Stingrays swim past Vista Diablo

CASSIDY MCGUIRE won three individual events for Benicia’s 13-14 girls.

The Benicia Stingrays swim team upped its record to 3-0 in the Tri-County Swim League with a 316-260 victory over the host Vista Diablo Dolphins on Wednesday.

The Stingray girls won 175-135 behind a strong performance from their 13-14 age division. Cassidy McGuire took first place in the 50-yard backstroke (36.40) and butterfly (33.37) and also won the 100-yard IM (1:16.72). Chole Cotsifas took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.00) and Jessica Scott captured the freestyle (28.63). Scott, Cotsifas, Julia Lindemuth and Kelsey Jacobson teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:13.63).

Tara Othman won a pair of events for the 15-18 Stingray girls, taking first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:16.05) and butterfly (1:22.28). Emma Lindemuth was the star for Benicia’s 11-12 girls, winning the 50-yard freestyle (30.16), butterfly (35.82) and backstroke (38.50). Grace Carrell won the 100-yard IM (1:37.60) for the 9-10 girls while teammate Emily Davis won the 50-yard freestyle (29.19). Davis, Carrell, Carmela Vitale and Annabella Millhollin took first place in the 200-yard medley (2:59.75).

Olivia Penney won the 25-yard butterfly (22.59) for the 7-8 girls and teamed with Ryane Lecair, Aislyn McNamara and Caroline Kelley to win the 100-yard medley relay (1:51.50). Ali Largaespada won the 25-yard freestyle (26.22) and breaststroke (41.41) for Benicia’s 6-under girls and teamed with Teagan McNamara, Ava McCombe and Madison Smith-Rambo to win the 100-yard medley relay (3:14.10).

Benicia’s boys beat the Dolphins 141-125 thanks to a dominating performance by their 13-14 swimmers. Andrew Maichel won the 50-yard freestyle (27.90) and the 100-yard IM (1:14.16) while teammate Elian Salindong took first in the 50-yard breaststroke (38.19). Jake Rafac won the 50-yard butterfly (31.38) and Robert Patocchi won the backstroke (31.81). Patocchi, Salindong, Rafac and Maichel teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:08.56).

Benicia’s 7-8 boys also had a solid meet with Aden Li winning the 25-yard backstroke (18.63), breaststroke (23.00) and 100-yard IM (1:39.34). Aidian Zambrano won the 25-yard freestyle (18.72) and butterfly (26.50) and teamed with Li, Myles Cooper and Vincent Perelli to win the 100-yard medley relay (1:32.72).

Pierce Tenret won the 100-yard IM (1:33.75) for Benicia’s 9-10 boys and teammate Joey Patocchi won the 50-yard backstroke (46.12).

The undefeated Stringrays swim at American Canyon on Saturday.
