Stingrays swim past Gators

The Benicia Stingrays earned their first Twin Counties Swim League victory of the season with a 332-164 win over the visiting Gehringer Park Gators last Wednesday at the James Lemos Swim Center.

Benicia’s boys won 176-68 while the girls won 156-96. Two Stingrays records fell during the meet. Robert Patocchi, Elian Salindong, Joey Birdseye and Nate Freeman won the 13-14 boys medley relay with a time of 1:58.89, breaking the team record set in 2010. Aden Li broke his own team record in the 9-10 boys 50-yard butterfly with a time of 35.33.

Elian Salindong won three events for Benicia’s 13-14 boys, taking first place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.48), breaststroke (34.51) and butterfly (28.61). Pierce Tenret was a three-time winner for the 11-12 boys, taking first in the 50-yard butterfly (37.15), breaststroke (48.76) and 100 IM (1:28.43). Tenret joined Joey Patocchi, Jacob Manipis and Denzel Brown in winning the 200-yard medley relay (2:57.29).

Li also won the boys 50-yard freestyle (30.80) for the 9-10 boys and joined Justin Magno, Bryce Mincy and Mario Stump in winning the 200-yard medley relay (2:58.20).

Benicia’s 15-18 boys won three individual events and a relay. Jacob Hoenig took first in the 100-yard IM (1:09.70), Riley O’Connor won the breaststroke (1:37.48) and Jake Rafac won the butterfly (1:05.02). The threesome joined Gabriel Nelson to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:09.98).

Vincent Perelli won the 25-yard freestyle in 16.41 for his first-ever Gold time and also won the breaststroke (24.03) for Benicia’s 7-8 boys. William Klubben was a winner in the butterfly (19.59) and 100-yard IM (1:41.97) and joined Perelli, Rowan Yarnell and Lucas Cagnon to win the 100-yard medley relay (1:30.20).

Ryan Klubben was the star for Benicia’s 6-under boys, winning the 25-yard freestyle (21.40) and butterfly (22.27). Evan Magno won the breaststroke (45.20) and joined Klubben, Luke Gatewood and Tyler Ackelbein to win the 100-yard medley relay (2:24.30).

Cassidy Mcguire took first place in the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.18) and butterfly (1:14.09) for Benicia’s 15-18 girls. Teammate Julia Lindemuth won the 100-yard IM (1:18.54) and teamed with Mcguire, Sabrina Peterson and Ashlynn Smith to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:14.94).

For Benicia’s 13-14 girls, Jessica Scott won the 50-yard freestyle (27.94) while Amber Iniguez took first place in the 100-yard IM (1:12.07). Scott, Iniguez, Skyelar Clouse and Gabriella Tenret won the 200-yard medley relay (2:09.59).

Meadow Iniguez won the 50-yard butterfly (35.50) for the 11-12 girls and joined Emily Davis, Grace Carrell and Sophia Roth to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:31.30). Vanessa Sandoval won the 25-yard butterfly (26.65) for the 7-8 girls and joined Caroline Kelley, Julianna Baan and Ali Largaespada to win the 100-yard medley relay (1:45.46).

Mackenzie Mincy and Aislyn McNamara shined for Benicia’s 9-10 girls. Mincy won the 50-yard freestyle (44.77) and the 100 IM (1:54.81) while McNamara took first place in the 50-yard butterfly (1:00.44) and breaststroke (58.33).

Madison Smith-Rambo took first place in the 25-yard freestyle (22.69) and butterfly (32.25) for Benicia’s 6-under girls. Shiya Crawford won the 25-yard breaststroke and joined Smith-Rambo, Ava Ambrose and Teagan McNamara to win the 100-yard medley relay (2:35.85).

The Stingrays swim at Hercules on Saturday. Benicia’s next home meet is Wednesday, July 6 against the Pinole Seals.
