Stingrays finish third at TCSL championships

The Benicia Stingrays finished third overall at the Tri County Swim League Championships earlier this month.

The Stingrays had four boys come home with High Point titles. Elian Salindong won the 13-14 championship thanks to first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (23.82), butterfly (team record 25.98) and breaststroke (30.39). Salindong also joined teammates Robert Patocchi, Andrew Maichel and Nate Freeman in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:39.04) and medley relay (1:51.28), both league records. Maichel won the 100-yard IM (1:01.95) and took second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.13) and butterfly (26.20). Patocchi won the 50-yard backstroke (team record 28.08) and Freeman was third in the freestyle (24.85).

Benicia’s Aden Li was the High Point winner for the 9-10 boys. Li won the 50-yard butterfly (35.21), backstroke (36.49) and 100-yard IM (1:24.50) and joined teammates Bryce Mincy, Justin Magno and Mario Stump to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:28.39) and medley relay (2:54.51). Mincy finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (33.88) and butterfly (39.87).

Vincent Perelli took home High Point honors for the 7-8 boys after winning the 25-yard freestyle (15.75), butterfly (17.24) and breaststroke (22.44). William Klubben won the 25-yard backstroke championship (19.64) and the 100-yard IM title (1:35.25) and took second in the butterfly (17.82). Perelli, Klubben, Lucas Cagnon and Rowan Yarnell took first place in the 100-yard medley relay.

Ryan Klubben was the High Point winner for the 6-under boys, winning the 25-yard freestyle (19.35), butterfly (23.01) and backstroke (23.91). Klubben joined teammates Evan Magno, Tyler Ackelbein and Conor Smith to win the 100-yard freestyle relay (1:48.74) and medley relay (2:03.66). Magno was second in the freestyle and backstroke behind Klubben.

In 15-18 boys action, Jake Rafac took third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.79) and IM (1:03.08) and finished fourth in the freestyle (54.40). Benicia’s boys finished second behind Martinez for the team title.

Benicia’s 13-14 girls dominated the TCSL championships. Jessica Scott set a new record in while winning the 50-yard freestyle (25.95) while teammate Chloe Cotsifas won the breaststroke (34.22). Scott, Cotsifas, Amber Iniguez and Skyelar Clouse set a new league record while winning the 200-yard medley relay (2:03.82). Scott, Iniguez, Emma Lindemuth and Jayme Davis set a new league record while winning the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:49.42).

Meadow Iniguez won championships in the 50-yard backstroke (34.56) and the butterfly (33.55) for the 11-12 girls. Madison Smith-Rambo won the 25-yard butterfly (22.28) for the 6-under girls and took second place in the freestyle (20.17) and backstroke (25.81).

Several Stingrays advanced to the County Meet. Results from the County meet will appear soon.
