The Benicia Stingrays swim team lost a close home match against the Pinole Seals last week, falling 303-296 to drop to 2-2 in the Tri County Swim League.

Five Stingrays records were broken during the meet, including four by the boys squad, which fell 165-131 to Pinole for their first TCSL loss of the season. Ryan Klubben set of pair of new marks for the 6-under boys while winning the 25-yard backstroke (23.06) and breaststroke (25.37). Robert Petocchi sent a new Stingrays record for the 13-14 boys while winning the 50-yard backstroke (29.31) and also joined Elian Salindong, Andrew Maichel and Nate Freeman to set a new record in the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.98).

Jessica Scott set a 13-14 girls team record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.46.

Benicia’s girls had a strong overall showing and beat Pinole, 165-138. Amber Iniguez set gold times in winning the 50-yard backstroke (32.38) and 100-yard IM (1:10.27) for the 13-14 girls while Chloe Cotsifas set a Gold time in winning the 50-yard breaststroke (34.62). Iniguez and Cotsifas teamed with Scott and Gabriella Tenret to win the 200-yard medley relay with a Gold time of 2:04.19, and Jayme Davis set a Gold time while finishing second behind Scott in the 50-yard freestyle (27.60).

Madison Smith-Rambo was the star for Benicia’s 6-under girls, winning the 25-yard freestyle (21.69), backstroke (26.69) and butterfly (28.00). Shiya Crawford won the 25-yard breaststroke (32.55) and joined Smith-Rambo, Ava Ambrose and Teagan McNamara to win the 100-yard medley relay (2:13.69).

In 11-12 girls swimming, Olivia Kelly set a Gold time while winning the 100-yard IM (1:07.80) and teammate Grace Carrell won the 50-yard freestyle (31.07). Carrell, Ava Mainini, Emily Davis and Meadow Iniguez won the 200-yard medley relay (2:31.27).

For Benicia’s 7-8 girls, Vanessa Sandoval won the 25-yard butterfly (26.26), Ellen Goncharov won the backstroke (24.33) and Campbell Cerruti won the 100-yard IM (2:06.28). Cerruti, Sandoval, Carolina Kelley and Ali Largaespada took first place in the 100-yard medley relay (1:40.04).

In boys swimming, Salindong also set Gold times while winning the 50-yard butterfly (28.41) and 100-yard IM (1:05.91) and set a Gold time while finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.91). Andrew Maichel won the 50-yard freestyle with a Gold time of 24.34 and finished second in the 50-yard backstroke with another Gold time (30.75). Freeman set a Gold time (25.53) while taking third in the same event and also set a Gold time while finishing second behind Salindong in the butterfly (28.70).

Klubben also set a Gold time while winning the 25-yard butterfly (22.23) for the 6-under boys while teammate Evan Magno won the freestyle (22.43). Klubben, Magno, Tyler Ackelbein and Conor Smith won the 100-yard medley relay (2:03.08).

For the 7-8 boys, William Klubben set a Gold time while winning the 25-yard backstroke (20.20) and also took first place in the freestyle (17.51) and butterfly (18.98). Mario Stump won the 50-yard freestyle (39.21) and butterfly (51.08) for the 9-10 boys, and Daniel Goncharov won the 50-yard breaststroke (42.35) for the 11-12 boys.

Benicia swims against the Pleasant Hill Dolphins on Wednesday in Pleasant Hill.
