Stingrays break records at ECI

The Benicia Stingrays had several excellent swimming performances at last weekend’s East County Invitational at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg and finished in fourth place out of 11 teams.

Elian Salindong and Ryan Klubben were the superstars for Benicia’s boys, who finished in second place behind Forest Park, which won both the boys and girls titles.

Salindong was the High Point winner for the 13-14 boys and broke a 13-year-old Stingrays record while winning the 50-yard breaststroke (30.67). Salindong also joined teammates Robert Patocchi, Nate Freeman and Andrew Maichel in breaking their own Stingrays record in the 200-yard freestyle and medley relays. Their time of 1:38.44 in the freestyle relay broke a 31-year-old ECI record, and their time of 1:51.97 in the medley relay broke a 15-year-old ECI record. Salindong also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a County time of 24.32 and earned a Gold time while taking sixth in the backstroke (31.44). Salindong also finished second in the butterfly (26.73) and second in the 100-yard IM (1:03.52).

Klubben was the High Point winner for the 6-under boys. He broke his own Stingrays record while winning the 25-yard butterfly (21.67) and also took first place in the freestyle (18.38), backstroke (22.72) and breaststroke (26.40), all County times.

Maichel broke the Stingrays 13-14 boys 50-yard butterfly record, winning with a time of 26.59. He also won the 50-yard freestyle (24.28) and 100-yard IM (1:02.08) and finished third in the backstroke (30.04). Benicia’s 13-14 girls freestyle relay team of Jayme Davis, Amber Iniguez, Emma Lindemuth and Jessica Scott set a new Stingrays record while taking second place with a time of 1:50.60.

Benicia had several other Gold times during the meet. Patocchi earned Gold wxhile finishing fifth in the butterfly (28.53) and Freeman earned Gold while taking sixth in the 100-yard IM (1:07.24).

Madison Smith-Rambo set her first-ever Gold time while finishing second in the 6-under girls butterfly (23.74) and took Gold again while finishing fourth in the 25-yard freestyle (20.81). Smith-Rambo also finished fifth in the backstroke (27.02).

Skyelar Clouse earned her first-ever Gold time in the 13-14 girls butterfly (30.27) while Gabriella Tenret earned Gold in the freestyle (27.71). William Klubben had a Gold time while taking fourth in the 7-8 boys freestyle (16.31).

The 13-14 girls freestyle relay team of Tenret, Clouse, Alyssa Mainini and Chloe Cotsifas earned a Gold time in their race (1:55.36). Scott finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (26.78), Iniguez took fifth in the backstroke (32.66) and sixth in the breaststroke (36.27), Cotsifas took second in the breaststroke (33.05) and fifth in the 100-yard IM (1:11.06), and Tenret finished sixth in the butterfly (30.03).

Freeman took third place in the 13-14 boys freestyle (24.97) and fifth in the breaststroke (34.20). Patocchi was second in the backstroke (29.30).

Jake Rafac had a strong meet for Benicia’s 15-18 boys, taking fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.94) and butterfly (59.14), fifth in the IM (1:03.03) and sixth in the backstroke (1:06.51). Pierce Tenret was fifth in the 50-yard butterfly (33.78) for the 11-12 boys.

In the 9-10 boys division, Aden Li took second in the 50-yard freestyle (30,66) and third in the breaststroke (44.35). Bryce Mincy was sixth in the backstroke (42.47) and joined Aidian Zambrano, Justin Magno and Mario Stump to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:24.43) and third in the medley relay (3:04.65).

William Klubben took third in the 25-yard butterfly (19.31) and fourth in the backstroke (20.52) and 100-yard IM (1:43.99) for the 7-8 boys. Evan Magno took second in the backstroke (26.31) for the 6-under boys.

Benicia’s girls finished seventh as a team. Cassidy Mcguire took third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:08.87) and fifth in the backstroke (1:09.94).

The Stingrays swim at Crockett this Saturday in a Tri-County Swim League event.
