The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys varsity volleyball team served up a whole lotta misery for visiting Pinole Valley last Thursday.
The Bruins registered 30 aces against a young Pinole Valley squad and cruised to a 25-9, 25-14, 25-12 victory at the Bruins Lair. SPSV (2-0) welcomed the easy victory after struggling to a five-set victory over El Cerrito in the season opener earlier in the week.
“Pinole has a lot of new kids this year and they had some issues with their passing,” noted SPSV head coach Danette Domecus. “That makes it tough when you can’t pass and we had a lot of aces. We served them pretty tough.”
Deo Boongaling had seven kills and an ace for the Bruins, who had 40 percent of their points come off aces. Patrick Basco had five kills and teammate Dominic Nicolas had 12 assists, three digs and seven aces.
Other standouts for SPSV included John Cuevas (seven digs, six aces), Mark Perez (four aces, four kills) and Anthony Olmes (nine assists). Freshman Ryan Manuel had five aces, and Noah Moretti and Matt Peters each had three kills and a block.
The Bruins play at Hercules on Tuesday and host De Anza on Wednesday.
Noah’s last name is “Moretti”, not Meritti.
Thanks.
