SPSV softball team shuts out Acalanes for non-league win

April 16, 2015 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

Taya de Alba pitched a complete-game shutout and the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High varsity softball team pulled away late for a 7-0 non-league victory over visiting Acalanes on Wednesday.

Neenah Pangilinan sparked SPSV early when she led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run. Natalya Ocon delivered a big two-out RBI hit in the fourth inning to make it 2-0, and several Acalanes errors led to a three-run fifth inning for the Lady Bruins.

“We played very, very well,” said SPSV manager Rich Gigliotti. “We didn’t strike out at all and Taya pitched her best game of the year.”

Acalanes managed only five hits off de Alba, who struck out five and walked one. The senior also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run and a RBI. Pangilinan ended up 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Jaydee Boursaw went 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI, and Ocon finished with two hits.

It was the 15th victory in 19 games for the Lady Bruins, who get back into Tri-County Athletic League action Friday at home against Pinole Valley. SPSV is unbeaten in TCAL play (5-0).

“We control our own destiny and are in pretty good shape,” Gigliotti said.
