The St. Patrick-St. Vincent boys varsity volleyball team opened its 2015 season with a thrilling 25-14, 20-25, 23-25, 28-26, 15-8 victory over host El Cerrito on Monday.

Deo Boongaling had 16 kills, three aces and 16 digs for the Bruins, who narrowly kept their league winning streak in tact. SPSV hasn’t lost a league match since 2008. Dominic Nicolas added 18 assists and eight digs, and Mark Perez had seven kills and eight digs.

Other standouts for the Bruins (1-0 TCAL) included Patrick Basco (eight kills, three assists, three blocks), John Cuevas (11 digs) and Matthew Peters (five blocks).

SPSV’s home opener is Thursday against Pinole Valley.
