SPSV boys volleyball team sweeps into NCS semifinals

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High boys volleyball team advanced to the North Coast Section Division III semifinals after a 25-15, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of visiting Valley Christian last Saturday.

It was the eighth straight victory for the Bruins (25-6), who are seeded fourth in the Division III bracket. SPSV is looking for its first NCS boys volleyball championship since 2013 and will take on No. 1 seeded Bentley (24-3) in Lafayette on Tuesday night. Bentley has never won a NCS boys volleyball championship.

SPSV’s Alex Olmes had 13 kills and five digs against No. 5 seed Valley Christian (18-8). Noah Moretti added 12 kills, Jonathan Gomez added seven kills and five digs, and Ryan Manuel had 23 assists, five aces and eight digs.

Other standouts for the Bruins on Saturday included Jonathan Lata (10 assists, seven digs), Matthew Peters (five kills), Aiden Taylor (four blocks) and Dominic Delgado (nine digs).

Bentley reached the semifinals after a 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of No. 8 seed St. Mary’s.
