Eric Bean was tortured for a day in a Benicia home and murdered Dec. 20, 2009. Now tragedy has struck his family again.

Bean’s sister, Judith Lee-Rene Bean, was killed in a Martinez double-shooting on the anniversary of her brother’s death.

Judith Bean, who like her brother was 18 when she died, was shot on the 1900 block of Boynton Avenue. Police received a call shortly after 9:30 p.m. Dec. 20 and found two shooting victims when they arrived, Martinez police Detective Sgt. Dave Mathers said.

Paramedics provided medical support to both, but Judith Bean was pronounced dead at the scene, Mathers said.

He said the other victim, identified as Michael Sherman Parker, 25, was taken to a hospital for treatment of wounds that were not considered to be life-threatening.

Judith, who had lived with her father in Pittsburg, had just returned to Martinez the previous week to help attend to her sick mother.

The shooting was another tragedy for the Bean family, whose children grew up playing along the Martinez coastline.

Eric Bean’s body was found Dec. 21, 2009, by a passerby traveling on McEwen Road 1.3 miles north of California Highway 4 west of Martinez. He had been held captive and beaten at a house on Carolina Drive, Benicia, and later killed and dumped down an embankment.

Timothy Danny Delosreyes Jr., then 36, of Vallejo; his son, Timothy Danny Delosreyes III, then 18, of Crockett and a friend of Bean’s; and two Benicia residents, Robert Gardner, then 32, and Melody Rives, then 30, were arrested and charged in connection with the death.

Authorities said Eric apparently owed a drug debt, and with help stole his father’s guns to use as payment. But he apparently had a change of heart and told a Benicia woman he wanted to confess to his father. The woman told her husband and two friends, who caught Eric, tied him up and began torturing him.

In 2012, Gardner was convicted of first-degree murder and the younger Delosreyes man was convicted of torturing and killing Bean.

Rives originally was arrested, but obtained a plea deal, serving six months after she turn state’s evidence, describing how Delosreyes III had killed Bean after those two and she had spent several hours smoking methamphetamine at the Carolina Drive house.

Delosreyes Jr., who testified at his son’s trial, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter.

Martinez police are investigating the Friday double shooting, and are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact Martinez Police Detective Ryan Baillie at 925-372-3451 or RBaillie@CityOfMartinez.org.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may call 925-372-3457.

Meanwhile, Nicci Abbott, a family friend, has started an online fundraiser to help the family with funeral expenses.

“I would like to try to take some of the stress off this family’s shoulders by raising money for the funeral and other needs,” Abbot wrote on the fundraising site. “Anything is helpful and appreciated. Please keep Jim, Pam and Carole in your thoughts and prayers.”

Abbott, a friend of the victim’s sister Carole, was acquainted with Judith and other members of the Bean family.

“When I found out I really felt I wanted to do something to help them out,” Abbott said.

“I know Martinez is the type of place that helps people when they need it.”

Martinez restaurant owner Arash Pakzad promised a gift card to anyone who donates $20 or more to the Bean Family Fund.

“I can donate a bunch of Barrelista gift cards,” Pakzad told Abbott and posted on social media. “To each person that donates at least $20 to the fund I will give a $5 gift card. Just contact me after you donate and I’ll have a gift card ready for you.”

Abbott, who made the family aware of the fund, hopes to give all the proceeds to them on Saturday to help with funeral expenses.

Donations are being accepted at http://www.gofundme.com/j57nzw.
