Show your true colors at Benicia High School’s first ever color run

May 17, 2016 by Nick Sestanovich Leave a Comment

Everybody loves a good run, especially when it comes to raising money. However, when you are springing toward that finish line, wouldn’t you like to get a little messy…and colorful? Benicia High School will help make that happen.

Benicia High will be hosting its first-ever Panther Pride Color Vibe, an event that combines a color run with a carnival. Participants will race around the high school track and have colored powder tossed at them along the way. Afterwards, they can partake in a carnival on the football field with various activities, including games, face painting, music, a silent auction and more.

According to senior class president Isabelle Briseno, the idea came from a similar event done at the middle school.

“Benicia Middle School had the great idea of having a color run fundraiser to help raise money,” she said. “So we decided that it would be a great and fun way to raise money for our class accounts.”

According to Briseno, the money raised will be split up among all four classes— i.e., freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors— for individual class events.

The school is looking to raise at least $8,000, and also is seeking donations for its carnival portion. Such desired items include hot dogs and buns, water bottles, chips, face paint, snow cone and cotton candy machines and supplies, pies for a pie-eating contest, silent auction items and other carnival-style games.

Additionally, Briseno hopes the event will bring in the community.

“It will be lots of fun and I hope to see as much of the community there as possible,” she said.

The event is open to everyone, and Briseno wants lots of people to sign up.

“It is a great way to get the community involved and raise money for Benicia High School,” she said.

The event will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21 at the Benicia High School track, located at 1101 Military West. Tickets are $15 for students and $20 for members of the community, although they can add $5 for the purchase of a T-shirt. Participants are asked to bring white clothes, sunglasses, a towel, change of clothes, baby wipes, a bandana, money and plastic bags. People can sign up at the door on the day of the event, at the BHS finance office ahead of the event or online at BHS.BeniciaUnified.org. There is no limit to how many people can sign up. For more information, visit BHS.BeniciaUnified.org or call the school at 747-8325.
