Benicia High’s boys tennis team had its season as a group come to an abrupt halt Tuesday after a 6-3 loss to visiting Bella Vista in the quarterfinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs.

Rajan Bhatia earned Benicia’s only singles victory, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Emad Abdul-Wajid and Andrew Butawan were 6-3, 6-2 winners at No. 1 doubles for the Panthers, who had a first-round bye. Brian Hung and Nick Menjibar won their No. 2 doubles match, 6-2, 6-1.

“It didn’t go as we wanted but they were simply the better team today,” said Benicia tennis coach Joe Perrin. “All in all a very great and successful season.”

The Panthers will send Bhatia and Nate Tabtab to the SJS Individual Tournament beginning today at Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville.
