Safety personnel respond to car crash, gas leak on First Street

Prior to 6:33 p.m. Thursday evening, a vehicle struck a gas meter at the corner of First and West C streets, prompting the Police and Fire departments to close off the area.
A vehicle had struck the side of Rosanna’s European Delights and hit a gas meter, which officials say was leaking uncontrollably. Police and Fire Department vehicles were deployed to the scene, and personnel closed off the 300 block of First Street and evacuated businesses and residences in the vicinity of the accident. Public safety personnel also used Alert Benicia to keep residents up to date about the incident.
Pacific Gas & Electric personnel also arrived to assess the scene. After the leak was secured, the evacuation was lifted around 8:05 p.m.
Personnel determined that one of the of the occupants of the vehicle had minor injuries but did not need to be transported to the hospital.
