Kristina Ruble and Emily Thompson each scored goals as the St. Patrick-St. Vincent High girls soccer team topped host St. Joe’s last Thursday, 2-1.
It was the first Tri-County Athletic League Rock Division victory ever for the Lady Bruins (2-8, 1-7 TCAL), who snapped a seven-game losing streak.
“I’m happy for the girls,” said SPSV head coach Javier Martinez. “This gets the monkey off our back. We finally played well enough to win.”
Ruble got a deflection off a St. Joe’s defender and broke free for a goal early the second half to make it 1-0. St. Joe’s answered a minute later, but Thompson took a perfect feed from Ruble, put a move on the Pilots goalkeeper and slotted in the game-winning goal.
“We were kicking the ball long and I told the team we needed somebody to step up and dribble through their girls, and that’s exactly what happened,” Martiinez said.
The Lady Bruins celebrate Senior Night at home Tuesday in the regular-season finale against Salesian.
