Police seek motorist who left scene after injuring pedestrian

June 22, 2015 by Donna Beth Weilenman Leave a Comment

A motorist driving an older-model sedan left the scene after hitting a pedestrian who was crossing the street at the intersection of East Fifth Street and Military East early Sunday morning, Benicia police Lt. Mike Greene said.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, was taken to John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek, where he is being treated for head injuries and other trauma, Greene said.

Greene said early results of the ongoing police investigation indicate the driver was traveling west on Military East about 2:08 a.m. when the vehicle struck the man, who was walking north on Military East.

Instead of stopping, the driver continued west on Military East, then left the area, Greene said.

He said Benicia Fire Department’s paramedics provided initial medical aid to the injured man, who was taken by ambulance to Walnut Creek.

“The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Benicia Police Department,” Greene said, explaining that the whereabouts of the vehicle are still undetermined.

He said the vehicle is a gray or silver Honda or Nissan sedan that is missing its left rear hub cap.

“If you have any information as to the identity of the owner or driver of this vehicle please call Benicia police at 707-745-3412,” he said.
