He stood there thinking, moving his feet.
His only love waiting across the street.
The light seemed stopped as he waited at ease,
Watching her dress ruffled by the breeze.
The small package held firm in his hands,
While inside lay the tiny gold bands.
For a moment he looked from the woman he knew,
At another man moving fast into view.
They stepped together and fondly embraced,
And stood holding hands as towards him they faced.
The look in her eyes had once been for him.
Now the feeling in him, once warm, grew dim.
Once she had been his, and his alone.
Moments showed loss of all he had known.
He failed to take that street crossing trip,
And the tiny love package fell from his grip.
