I knew a boy who went to sea.
The land too far to see.
Strong of limb, but mind too dim,
No vow of love to bind him.
To ride the sea and feel the wind,
No thought in mind if he had sinned.
I knew that boy, that boy was me.
Now home I’ve come, home from the sea.
I know now it’s another that you did marry,
But wherever you go my child you’ll carry.
Return to sea, gear in my sack.
Old eyes of mine, with no look back.
