Poetry Corner: James Garrett “Rain”

November 3, 2017 by James M. Garrett Leave a Comment

It was raining then, as it is raining now.
The drops cooling the earth where we made our first vow.
The wind brings again that breath of chill,
That I knew before when you loved me still.
The drops dance lightly round my face,
Mixing their bodies with the tears they erase.
A muffled sigh disguised by the din,
Hiding thoughts of what had been.
Times remembered, in the rains of the past,
Holding our love with a grip that was fast.
Hoping again it would always stay,
Like the rainbow that came at the break of day.
But people grow, and change they must.
Dreams of the young often turn to dust.
Cleansed in time from hurt and pain,
By the steady drops of the falling rain.
