It was March 17th, fifty-seven years ago,
A long time has passed, I know.
She walked across the quad while I held my stance,
She asked me to the Sadie Hawkins Dance.
I said “Yes” for my own sake,
And thought, “I’ll give the girl a break.”
We went into the gym and danced on the “B”,
Through the last dance for everyone to see.
I walked her home, it was one short block.
When she asked for a good night kiss, it was a shock.
I expected a peck on the cheek,
But that kiss made my knees go weak.
Our first date, see where it led.
Six years later, we were wed.
We had met in a class at Benicia High School,
A friend said “You’ll marry her if you’re no fool.”
A few more dates through the years
Yes, at times, I brought her some tears.
My joy, my everything, my life,
That young lady became my wife.
Our first date, see where it led.
