Poetry Corner: James Garrett “My Lady”

April 20, 2018 by James M. Garrett Leave a Comment

Beauty and kindness,
Giving chase and thrills.
A sorceress who conjures,
All her heart wills.
Love with a smile,
Eyes, laughing or teary.
Safety and warmth,
A comfort when I’m weary.
Her photo sits on a table.
Her fragrance blossoms the air.
Footsteps softly pass.
Voice giving loving words of care.
Breath from her soul,
Which caresses “We”, not “I”.
The strength of a mountain,
But tender as a sigh.
Softness of touch,
When holding my hand.
Once I placed forever,
On one finger a gold band.

The above poem won First Place in the Love Poetry Contest at the Benicia Historical Museum in 2006.
