By chance we met again last night.
You so startled, with a breath of fright.
The voices were the same as words we shared.
Using phrases, though few truths were bared.
The girl who promised to wait forever.
The boy on whom fate used a lever.
“We’ve all missed you,” your words had said.
My hands, in my eyes, caressed your head.
Yes, since then I’ve seen a lot,
Gained much from what time has bought.
You offered to share your new family with me,
For a time so short, but for all to see.
No longer is it just you and me.
Now I’m to only visit as company.
You stood there not at your ease.
My heart wanted only yours to please.
“No thanks, I won’t be here for long.”
The sigh in your voice answered like a song.
“I have a plane that must be caught.”
It seems the girl, I knew, forgot.
