Photo: On the sixth night of Hanukkah

December 19, 2017 by Editor Leave a Comment

(Left to right) Alisa Danyeur, Shoshana Nurik and Heather Campbell preside over the Meghan Campbell Memorial Menorah Lighting, held Sunday on the sixth night of Hanukkah at the Benicia Public Library. Attendees were given song sheets with lyrics printed in English and Hebrew as they sang such songs as “Rock of Ages,” Chanukah, Oh Chanukah” and “The Dreidel Song.” They also sang “The Eight Days of Hanukkah”– written by Campbell, her mother and friend more than 40 years ago and sung to the tune of “The 12 Days of Christmas”– and Danyeur read from Arthur Yorinks’ humorous children’s book “The Flying Latke.” The annual Hanukkah event is typically celebrated at the library during the last Sunday of the holiday and also serves as a tribute to Campbell’s daughter Meghan, who died from complications from pneumonia in 2008.
