Photo: Lively up the traffic box

June 16, 2018 by Editor Leave a Comment

School may be out for summer, but the importance of reading is a message that permeates year-round. As part of Benicia’s Public Art Initiative and the Benicia Public Library’s 25th anniversary in its L Street building, Benicia High Schoolers Samantha Johnson and Jiana Lyons were commissioned to paint the traffic control box on the corner of First and Military leading into Eunice Jensen Park with a design of a bookshelf on two sides and a person enjoying a book underneath a tree in the front. Since this photo was taken, more color has been added to the piece and more designs have been filled in. (Photo courtesy of Terry Scott)
