Photo: Letting off some STEAM

First-grader Kaya Concepcion (Left) and her father Rob create a Squishy Circuit using wires and Play Doh and Joe Henderson Elementary’s STEAM Night on Wednesday. The dough acts as a conductor, whcih allows electricity to go through and turn a light on. The evening featured several interactive stations in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Activities included a sand crayon art station with supplies donated by Arts Benicia, a marshmallow structure challenge, Legos, robotics, a slime station, problem solving board games like Blokus, a healthy cooking station for people to cut up vegetables for quesadillas and even circuits used to power an arcade cabinet, featuring playable emulations of such classics as “Dig Dug” and “Centipede.” Materials were provided by local businesses and organizations such as Brickspace and Benicia Makerspace.
