Photo: (Bocce) ball’s in your court

May 23, 2017 by Editor 1 Comment

The city of Benicia hosted a ribbon cutting Friday for its new bocce ball courts in Civic Center Park. Cutting the ribbon are Mayor Elizabeth Patterson and Councilmember Mark Hughes (Center front). In November, the Benicia City Council voted to approve the construction of two additional lanes to the existing court to increase the amount of space for more teams. Bocce Ball is a very exciting family oriented sport. Glad to see the additional courts. We need more. I suggest we put more down on the Marina Green. Bocce Ball is a tourist attract. Have tournaments and watch the crowds on weekends swell. Good luck and ask for more support and also build more courts. Build a relationship with Martinez. Have an annual competitive Bocce Ball tournament. Invite trams from all over the country. Team up with Martinez and share the tournament every other year. Martinez and the next year Benicia. Even if you have to make temporary courts. You might be surprised who would help sponsor it. It could be very big. Team up the Main Street. We have great leadership in our Bocce Ball organization. Might even try combining it with a baseball tournament or beach volleyball. It is all there for the asking.,
