The Benicia Outlaws 12-under softball team took first place at last weekend’s Get Dirty Tournament in Sacramento.
The Outlaws went 2-1 during Saturday’s pool play, including a victory over a 14-under team, and won two games Sunday to capture the title.
Benicia opened the tournament with a 13-5 victory over Crimescene Fastpitch of Sacramento. Amanda Ajari and Kate Gillum each pitched two innings while teammates Emily Rahill and Jordan Coombs each scored three runs for the Outlaws.
Benicia moved on and routed Lompoc Ball-istic, 11-0. Gillum and Bailey Valdez combined on the shutout while Sydney Vigil and Haley Wibben each had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Marlee Tuttle added a double and a run.
Benicia’s only loss came in Saturday’s final game – a 9-5 setback against Chico’s ‘A’ team. Gillum had two hits, two runs and two RBI for Benicia. Emily Rahill had two hits and a run, and Ajari had a hit, a run and an RBI.
Facing Lompoc Ball-istic in Sunday’s semifinals, Benicia won easily, 14-1. Kylee Cerno scored twice and Ajari had two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Vigil and Wibben each had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
The Outlaws got revenge against Chico, beating them in the finals, 8-4. Benicia trailed 3-2 before rallying for the victory. Ajari had three hits, three runs and an RBI. Rahill had two hits and two runs, Gillum had a hit and a run, and Tuttle scored a run.
Ajari picked up the win and was 3-1 in the tournament. Gillum allowed only one earned run in nine innings.
It was the first tournament of the season for Benicia’s 12-under Outlaws, who play again this weekend in Napa.
