Oldtimers beat San Jose for third straight win

May 6, 2015 by Steve Guertin Leave a Comment

The Benicia Oldtimers baseball team beat visiting San Jose last Sunday, 8-2, to run their winning streak to three games while evening their overall record at 4-4.

Seven different Oldtimers scored on the day. Rich Reza doubled and scored twice while Mark Mortensen, Ernest Holquin and Eric Wheat delivered key singles in a five-run fourth inning.

Benicia pitcher Brandon Fade had a shutout going through seven innings and ended up throwing a complete game with nine strikeouts.

Benicia, which swept a doubleheader from Modesto in late April, is scheduled to host Vallejo this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field. Benicia beat Vallejo in last year’s Dutch Van Wey Classic championship game for its first NorCal title since 2010. Vallejo won the rematch, beating the Oldtimers, 10-8, on March 22.
