Bluegrass and blues music as well as the aroma of barbecue will fill the air Sunday afternoon at Benicia Museum during its popular fundraiser featuring the bands Sycamore and The Blues Defender, Executive Director Elizabeth d’Huart said.
This is the second year the museum has blended music and barbecue. The first edition was “an enormous success,” she said.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy an environment where they could be inside or outside, in the hall, up in the exhibits, touring the Powder Magazine, in the garden at tables or under the shade tents,” she said, “and, of course, getting their dance on!”
She said both Sycamore and The Blues Defender were invited back to play after proving popular with guests last year.
The award-winning caterers Beaver Creek Smokehouse will provide food for the event, she said.
Those attending can buy pulled pork sandwiches and Asian coleslaw, and the museum will have a no-host bar stocked with a variety of wines and beers, as well as supplemental snacks, d’Huart said.
A pop-up exhibit created last year for the inaugural Bluegrass, Blues and Barbecue is Cheers! Beer Brewing in Benicia, and d’Huart said the pop-up has expanded for this year’s event.
The exhibit will have new materials to augment the outdoor program, including a portable brewing distillery demonstration by the Benicia Beer Brewers, a local beer enthusiast organization, she said.
