Local pet outfitter Pups ‘n Purrz is now offering handmade dog beds crafted by an enterprising young local artisan.
Vanessa, a third-grader at Mary Farmar Elementary School, makes the beds in a variety of sizes and fabric designs, with hypoallergenic poly fill, and commissions them for sale at the pet supply store.
“I was at my grandma MJ’s house. I made my first bed for her two dogs K.C. and Kooper,” Vanessa told the Herald Monday. Vanessa has also made beds for her two Chihuahuas, Chula and Chewy.
The young artisan may expand her project at some point to include blankets for dogs and cats — “That would be fun!” Vanessa only sews when she has free time after her homework is finished, her aunt Sondra adds.
The beds come in three sizes and sell for $15 to $20. The largest size would fit easily into a large dog carrier, the seller estimates. Pups N Purrz is located at 422 First St. For more information call them at 748-7433.
