THE BENICIA WILDCATS will play in the Next Level Flag Football League Super Bowl this Sunday at De La Salle High School.
The Benicia Wildcats – a group of first and second graders learning the game of football – will be taking on the Longhorns at De La Salle High School in Concord this Sunday for the Super Bowl of the Next Level Flag Football League.
The No. 1 seeded Wildcats reached the Super Bowl after defeating the Cowboys, 33-19, in last Sunday’s league semifinals. Carlos Largaespada Jr. threw three touchdown passes in the first half and Terry Finn had an amazing interception in the end zone to stop a Cowboys drive as Benicia avenged its only loss during the regular season.
“We came back and put it on them pretty good,” said Wildcats coach Carlos Largaespada.
Middle linebackers Jake Morgan and Jake Holcomb created havoc all day and helped neutralize the Cowboys’ rushing attack. Holcomb, Jax Core and Zach Austria each had TD receptions.
Owen Witry came up with two huge defensive stops at the goal line and Myles Cooper also played outstanding defense. Dayton Bracelin leads the Wildcats in touchdowns this season.
“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys in their first season of playing football,” Largaespada said. “Everyone contributed. The effort and poise they showed throughout the game was very impressive.”
The Super Bowl against the Longhorns kicks off at noon Sunday at De La Salle High. Both teams have the same record, though Benicia won a previous meeting during the regular season.
